Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software or firmware development.
  • 5 years of experience in cellular modem development.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 5 years of development experience with wireless technologies (e.g., GSM, UMTS, LTE-FDD/LTE-TDD, and 5G NR).
  • 5 years of experience in Voice Performance (e.g., WFC, VoLTE, ViLTE, VONR), Data Performance, System Selection, Thermal/Power and Performance optimizations.
  • 5 years of experience with Cellular NAS Protocol Stack (MM/EMM/5GMM/SM/ESM/5GSM), system selection and service layers
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.

About the job

As an Engineering Manager, you will own the strategy, scoping, navigation, and outcome for very difficult and complex technical problems. You also have the opportunity to lead a team of talented cellular protocol stack engineers who are focusing on development, integration, and customization of modem features on Android devices, and working closely with extended workforce partners. Your team will focus on the core Non-access Stratum (NAS) layer and protocol stack services.

The Google Pixel team focuses on designing and delivering the world's most helpful mobile experience. The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $164,000-$252,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead or guide teams to clarify large, open-ended technical problems, resolving ambiguity, making them tractable, and easier to solve.
  • Develop modem software across all protocol stack layers.
  • Develop thermal, power, and performance optimized connectivity solutions.
  • Develop innovative modem differentiators to improve the overall connectivity experience.
  • Debug, analyze, and fix modem issues from factory, certification (e.g., GCF/PTCRB/IOT), field, and end users.
