Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience with software development and data structures/algorithms.
- 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
- 3 years of experience building developer tools (e.g., compilers, automated releases, code design/testing, test automation frameworks).
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with mobile app development and test automation.
- Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. Java and Python), including programming practices, major features and capabilities, and system management tools.
- Knowledge of the major phases and activities of a software test cycle.
- Ability to debug, triage, and fix program code or system issues (e.g., firmware, software, application, operational, process).
- Ability to define software architecture, components, modules, interfaces, and data for a system to satisfy specified requirements, including validating for correctness, functionality, reliability, and other characteristics.
- Passion for tools and infrastructure.

The Google Nest team develops, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Responsibilities
- Work with multiple teams across organizations to solve deep technical problems that enable feature teams to ship quality code at high velocity.
- Lead scalable infrastructure that spans across device software, services, and apps. Set technical direction and priorities for a small number of adjacent engineers.
- Deliver infrastructure to testing components and products based on knowledge of differences and considerations for each test phase (e.g., validity, verification, performance, reliability, usability, stress testing) and develop tests to prove out infrastructure for each of the major phases of software development.
- Generate the ideas required to solve technical problems and take full ownership of the solution.
- Build working collaborations with cross-functional peers. Identify and share opportunities and technical context that inform cross-functional efforts.
