Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • 15 years of experience in distributed systems architecture and building scalable systems.
  • Experience identifying opportunities and setting technical direction for organizations.
  • Experience influencing and driving product developments and opportunities across stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with capacity planning, resource management, or scheduling.
  • Experience building large-scale distributed systems with a focus on computational optimization problems and solvers (e.g., linear programming, mixed integer programming, etc.).
  • Experience engineering and operating serving systems.
  • Excellent cross-organizational collaboration skills, with the ability to navigate diverse viewpoints and ownership driving business results that span multiple organizations.

About the job

As a Principal Engineer (PE), you will be the main architect for our Fleet Planning and Optimization systems, responsible for driving our forecasting, ordering, and fleet transformation software.

Google runs data center fleets, with compute, storage, networking, and dedicated accelerators spread globally. The continued growth in demand for computational resources together with the "end of Moore's law" poses a fundamental challenge to how we manage our data centers: we must optimize our resource deployment to keep resource expenditures in line with business growth.

You will design the high-level architecture for Google's Fleet Planning and Optimization, establish the strategic roadmap, and lead execution and delivery of the resource planning and fulfillment ecosystem that underpins Google’s cloud.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $271,000-$399,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Set the technical vision and strategy for delivering requirements of high-scale, reliability, performance, and development functions.
  • Help teams find the right short- and long-term goals between development functions and generalization of software solutions.
  • Drive the roadmap and partner with Product Management on the definition and development of features.
  • Engage with partner teams to align on product requirements, solution architecture, and emerging requirements and issues.
