Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
- 7 years of experience in a hardware engineering role.
- Experience with cellular RF and wireless design, associated board-level and firmware/system debug, and common RF test equipment.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience designing cellular wireless systems for consumer electronics including direct prototyping, testing, and manufacturing support.
- Experience with Python or other common programming language for test automation and data analysis.
- Experience with RF circuit and EM simulation tools, and familiarity with schematic creation and PCB design tools.
- Experience with RF test equipment (e.g., LTE/5G call box, UXM, CMW500, MT8000, etc.).
- Knowledge of 3GPP conformance/regulatory requirements and certification process.
- Excellent cross-functional communication and presentation skills, and ability to work independently with minimal assistance.

As a Hardware Engineer, you design and build the systems that are the heart of the world's largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting-edge data centers affecting millions of Google users.
With your technical expertise, you lead projects in multiple areas of expertise (i.e., engineering domains or systems) within a data center facility, including construction and equipment installation/troubleshooting/debugging with vendors.
As a Senior Hardware Engineer for Cellular RF within the Nest team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and integrating high quality wireless subsystems for a wide variety of Google Nest products. You will be part of a team of RF Engineers working directly with the product hardware. You'll use the latest simulation tools, software automation, and RF test equipment to optimize the RF performance of Nest products.
The Google Nest team focuses on hardware, software and services offerings for the home, ranging from Nest thermostats to Nest smart displays. The Nest team researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.
Responsibilities
- Design cellular subsystems and front-end architecture to implement in Nest products. Perform EM simulations and link budget calculations for initial performance/isolation predictions.
- Optimize and debug through all performance levels (e.g., hardware/software tuning, Linearity, MIMO TPUT, etc.), from prototype to mass production.
- Create and drive wireless test plans to ensure consistent, high-performing products. Collaborate with cross-functional teams for wireless performance and development progress to a wide variety of audiences, from engineers to executives.
- Conduct factory production meetings and lead counterparts to help on validation and test issue debugging.
- Travel as needed for project bring-up and lab/factory onsite debugging.
