Minimum qualifications:
- Master's degree in optical engineering, physics, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in lens design and development.
- Experience working in CodeV or Zemax lens design software.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with stray light analysis or illumination design.
- Experience with optics lab testing and metrology.
- Experience with mobile camera imaging system.
- Experience with vendor management.
- Experience with physical optics.
- Understanding of lens design principles and methodologies.
About the job
As a Camera Optics Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of camera lenses for mobile devices. You will have a strong understanding of optical principles and lens design experience, as well as experience with miniature camera lens design and mobile camera imaging systems. You will also be responsible for working with cross-functional teams for imaging architecture optics support and vendors to source and qualify optical components.

The team works on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. This includes bringing together the best of Google’s artificial intelligence, software, and hardware to build global smartphones and create transformative experiences for users across the world.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $141,000-$212,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Explore lens designs that can be manufacturable and collaborate with other engineers to define imaging architecture.
- Familiar with optical labs and camera lens metrologies.
- Perform stray light analysis and optical testing.
- Work with vendors to source and qualify optical components.
