Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- 15 years of experience in software engineering
- 10 years of experience with database processing engines and systems
- 10 years of experience in analytics and business intelligence, including generative AI, advanced visualization techniques, and semantic data modeling
Preferred qualifications:
- 15 years of experience building and scaling large-scale distributed systems in a cloud environment (GCP)
- 15 years of experience bringing innovative, industry-leading tech products to market
- 15 years of experience working with data modeling, warehousing, and governance principles
- Experience with generative AI and advanced analytics
- Strong business acumen and understanding of the BI market
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and influencing skills, with strong storytelling abilities

As a Distinguished Engineer for Business Intelligence, you will be the preeminent technical authority responsible for defining and driving the future of data experiences at Google Cloud. You will be responsible for shaping the technical vision and strategy for Looker and its integration within Google Cloud's broader data and analytics ecosystem, with a particular focus on leveraging cutting-edge technologies like generative AI, advanced analytics, data visualization, and modern data architectures. You will collaborate closely with product leadership to define product roadmaps, mentor and develop senior technical talent, and advocate for innovation across the organization. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $323,000-$465,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Define and shape the technical vision and strategy for Business Intelligence (BI) and Looker within Google Cloud, anticipating future trends and advocating for innovation in areas like generative AI, embedded analytics, and real-time insights.
- Serve as the principal technical advisor for BI and Looker, guiding architectural decisions, technology selections, and strategic partnerships.
- Foster a culture of innovation and technical excellence within the BI and Looker engineering organization, mentoring senior talent and promoting best practices. Collaborate with other Google Cloud engineering leaders to ensure seamless integration between data and analytics services promoting a unified data experience.
- Lead the integration of generative AI and other advanced technologies into BI and Looker, unlocking new possibilities for data exploration and insight generation.
- Drive the evolution of Looker's semantic modeling capabilities, empowering users with a richer understanding of their data.
