About the job
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
With your extensive technical expertise you take initiative to independently design and implement new systems, designing, implementing, and testing multiple features with little or no direction from tech lead or manager. You collaborate with key stakeholders to determine future direction of work.
The Office of the CTO (OCTO) is a diverse team of experienced engineers and technologists, whose mission is to foster market-disrupting collaborative innovation between Google and the world's most ambitious organizations.
As an Engineering Manager of OCTO AIF, you will help build and lead a team of SWEs exploring strategic and potentially transformative market opportunities in collaboration with OCTO’s senior technical leaders, various Google Product and Engineering teams, and our strategic customers. You will bring your entrepreneurial spirit taking often loosely formed ideas into actionable insights.
Google Cloud accelerates every organization’s ability to digitally transform its business and industry. We deliver enterprise-grade solutions that leverage Google’s cutting-edge technology, and tools that help developers build more sustainably. Responsibilities

- Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
- Lead OCTO's AIF EMEA team collaborating with OCTO's Principal Engineers/Technical Directors, other AIF leads, Google Product/Engineering and our strategic customers.
- Leverage your deep technical expertise to help identify and refine promising projects across a rich variety of highly complex technical problem spaces with a particular focus on AI.
- Build an inclusive, collaborative and effective team coaching and mentoring the team on experimental thinking, challenging their assumptions, structuring communication for successful transitions and career development.
