About the job

User-Generated Content (UGC) such as Reviews and Suggested Map Edits represent a key differentiator for Google Maps and Search. UGC is critical for helping people decide where to go, and plays a huge role in keeping the Map fresh.

The Real World Experience team's mission within UGC is to help users everywhere share their authentic real world experiences and make well-informed decisions. Contributors share Reviews, Ratings, Photos/Videos, and Answers every day, helping users across Search and Maps decide where to go and in turn support and improve businesses globally.

The Real World Experience and Summarization team seeks to cull together the nuance and depth of the entire UGC corpus to make local decision making faster and easier. By using leading-edge Google tech/Machine Learning (ML) to extract the important points from a sea of contributor observations, such as by providing topical context and sentiment along with a place rating, Google's goal is to make it super easy for users to know exactly what a place is like while reducing exposure to lower quality content.

The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.

The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

Responsibilities

  • Define the product roadmap, build consensus among stakeholders, and secure their support for the Summarization strategy.
  • Drive alignment and collaboration with other teams, specifically Local Search, to ensure cohesive integration of Summarization efforts.
  • Develop product policy principles and guidelines that inform and guide UGC contributions, specifically concerning ML models and Summarization.
