Who You'll Work With
You’ll work in our office in San Jose, Costa Rica as part of our Global Electric Power & Natural Gas Capabilities & Insights (Research) team.
The Electric Power & Natural Gas (EPNG) team includes 25+ professionals who work alongside our consultants and clients to generate distinctive insights and proprietary knowledge. You will also be part of our global Client Capabilities Network, which includes more than 4,500 colleagues, who bring a wide spectrum of capabilities, including knowledge consulting, data engineering, research and more. You will work with this group to help develop, codify, sanitize, and manage our global knowledge.
Within our EPNG Capabilities & Insights network, you'll be working on strategic, analytical, and operational topics, focusing on energy transition, including: renewables, strategy/corporate finance, transmission & distribution (T&D) or retail markets. You will collaborate with a group of McKinsey colleagues that are actively working to develop strategic solutions in the electricity and gas markets.
What You'll Do
You will help our consulting teams remotely by problem-solving with them and providing market intelligence and data analysis across multiple dimensions.
Some of your day-to-day tasks will include identifying the key issues for the problem at hand and determining the most appropriate solution while effectively balancing quality, availability, timeliness, and cost factors. You’ll perform a variety of analyses such as benchmarking, trend identification, industry profiling, market sizing, growth projections, opportunity scanning, etc., in order to add value to problem-solving discussions. You’ll also provide synthesis, insight and client implications within tight deadlines via end products in the form of PowerPoint charts, written memos, models and frameworks.
This internship position is a 12-month full-time opportunity for students or new professionals looking to gain that extra step towards their professional development. At the end of your internship, there might be an opportunity to transition into a full-time Junior C&I Analyst position (based on performance, completion of your bachelor's degree and availability of an open position).
Qualifications
- Final year student of business management, finance, economics, engineering or related fields
- Solid understanding of general business concepts and terminology
- Intellectual curiosity
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills
- Strong team-orientation and a professional attitude
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deliver independently on tight timelines
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Experience and knowledge around the electricity (and mid-/downstream gas) industry is a strong plus
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English and Spanish)
