Sustainability Consultant - Material Economics

  • Stockholm

Who You'll Work With

You will be based in our Stockholm office as part of Material Economics and the Sustainability practice.
You will collaborate with Material Economics and McKinsey partners and consultants to solve key strategic imperatives in material transformation and circularity.
Material Economics is a sustainability-focused professional services firm fully owned by McKinsey and Company.
The McKinsey Sustainability practice seeks to be the preeminent impact partner and advisor for our clients, from the board room to the engine room, on sustainability, climate, energy transition, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG). We are committed to investing behind this goal over the next four years – through our client service, knowledge and capability building, acquisitions and alliances as well as pro-bono investments.

What You'll Do

As a sustainability specialized associate you will join Material Economics and the Sustainability Practice and work in teams of typically 3 – 5 consultants to identify, and oftentimes implement, potential solutions for a specific client problem or challenge. Together, you will help clients make lasting improvements to their performance and realize their most important goals.
Over the course of each project, you will gather and analyze information, formulate and test hypotheses, and develop and communicate recommendations. You'll also present results to client management and implement recommendations in collaboration with client team members. In some cases, you will be asked to travel to your client site.
When you join McKinsey, you are joining a firm that will invest in your professional development. You will receive training and coaching on how to better:
  • Structure ambiguous problems and take action to solve them
  • Synthesize complex information into clear takeaways and recommendations using both qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Work effectively with diverse teams to come up with the best solution and move people and organizations to act
  • Establish trust-based relationships with clients to better serve their organizations
  • Communicate effectively with all audiences, including senior leaders, in a structured manner
  • Develop your leadership style, leveraging your own passions, strengths, and personal values
  • We believe in strengths-based development and coaching, and you’ll receive frequent mentoring from the Sustainability practice colleagues. This will include a senior colleague from Material Economics who will help you grow and achieve your career goals. Additionally, you will have a professional development manager who manages staffing to help you choose projects based on your priorities as well as the needs of client service teams.
You will develop specialized knowledge in sustainability, material transformation and circularity as you progress through your career at Material Economics and McKinsey.

Qualifications

  • Excellent academic record and master's degree or equivalent in engineering, finance, economics or related disciplines
  • 3+ years' experience in sustainability, materials, renewables or energy with ideally exposure to business consulting
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and create an inclusive environment with people at all levels of an organization
  • Drive and passion about making a difference
  • Ability to interpret data and communicate the results to team members and clients
