Who You'll Work With
The Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Media Engagement will be part of McKinsey’s Reputation & Engagement team in Korea (Seoul). This team is responsible for leading and shaping the development of the overarching external affairs and corporate reputation strategy for McKinsey in Korea.
This role will work closely with the Korea Managing Partner and other leaders and will report to the Director of Reputation & Engagement, Asia Pacific. It will be part of a distributed network of more than 40 communications professionals across Asia.
You'll build relationships with partners, peers and colleagues in McKinsey’s industry and functional practices, an understanding of McKinsey’s strategic priorities and objectives, and create strategic opportunities to enhance McKinsey’s reputation through a high-impact mix of publishing activities, media engagements, and McKinsey-convened events.
What You'll Do
In this role, you will have a dual focus which includes driving engagement at key firm-convened forums, such as the annual Senior Partner meeting and the annual regional client event, AsiaBoost. These forums, which are among the biggest global McKinsey-convened events, will be held in Seoul. You will also be advising appropriately on corporate position in the local media, and developing priority themes and activities that build McKinsey’s reputation and share of voice with important media and strategic influencers in Korea.
At the most important firm-convened forums, you will be involved in: developing marketing communications strategies to promote the events both internally and externally and drive engagement; shaping thought leadership and publishing programs and developing content and agendas in support of the events; driving media engagement programs around the forums; managing relationships with key institutional partners, forum delegates and participating clients; providing input on strategic direction and working with a team of consultants on end-to-end planning and execution of the events.
Through this role, you will also build a local, media-engagement program that will involve: representing McKinsey and acting as one of its spokespeople; developing and aligning a local media strategy that is aligned to business priorities; shaping McKinsey’s thought leadership and distinctive insights and building media outreach in support of publishing efforts.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of experience working in, or with, Korean media organizations
- A strong track record of achievement in thought leadership and corporate narrative communication, media engagement and relationship management
- Thorough understanding of external channels – including broadcast and print media, digital and social, face-to-face, events etc.
- Exceptional writing skills with experience in ideating, creating and delivering an content creation strategies
- Experience in driving external relations programs, including day-to-day handling of senior relationships and managing reputation-building programs for high-profile local or global brands
- A track record of building and orchestrating successful, creative, pro-active external relations programs, senior-level external relations and marketing communications strategy development and execution
- Evidence of strong strategic capabilities, coupled with the pragmatism to act tactically when required
- Experience in working with large, complex organizations, and a proven ability to balance the needs of different stakeholders
- A team builder and collaborator; evidence of an outstanding ability to build strong, durable networks
- Tertiary qualified in business, commerce, communications, journalism or other relevant discipline
- Fluent in Korean and English
