Who You'll Work With
McKinsey & Company is a premier global management consulting firm and trusted adviser on strategy, organization, operations and information technology to the world’s leading businesses, governments and institutions. Serving 90% of the 100 largest global companies, McKinsey is a truly global firm, with over 120 offices in over 60 countries, linked by closely-knit industry and functional practices which concentrate on knowledge and expertise.
Since 2018, we have spent nearly $700 million on strengthening our risk management teams, capabilities, and processes as part of our ambition to lead our industry—and we have recruited some of the world’s best talent to help. Among other enhancements, we introduced an industry-leading client service framework (CITIO), which helps us vet each new client and guides our approach to engagements. Our commitment extends to our suppliers and internal systems, where we have improved cybersecurity controls, data and document retention, and process management. Annually, our colleagues participate in a rigorous Professional Standards and Risk training program.
You will be part of McKinsey’s Compliance function, whose mission is to manage risks to the firm, our clients, and our people, while also enabling McKinsey’s client impact and innovation. The Compliance function is globally integrated team within the second line of defense of the firm.
This role reports directly to the Chief Compliance Officer of the firm and will be part of the senior leadership team for the function. The role will preferably be based out of one of our US hubs, with other US and global locations considered.
What You'll Do
You will serve as the global head of regulatory compliance and will be part of our continued work to develop and build a world-class Ethics & Compliance function. Since 2015, we have more than quintupled the combined size of our internal risk, legal, ethics and compliance functions by adding senior executive professionals with strong, diverse background and external experiences. We are continually improving these processes and capabilities, which includes this role.
You will be responsible for building, shaping, and driving a robust and holistic approach to regulatory compliance matters, partnering closely in a peer-like fashion with senior leaders within the Legal and Risk functions, as well as the broader firm. As part of your remit to drive the holistic approach to our regulatory compliance programs, you will lead a team of highly experienced subject matter experts who will focus on specific regulatory areas and the programs thereof.
Specific responsibilities for the role include owning, building, and driving programs and activities across all regulatory areas including, but not limited to anti-corruption, trade and sanctions, anti-money laundering, labor and employment, anti-trust, personal investments, and more. You will also lead and drive the regulatory compliance agenda including the continuous evolution of the program based on the firm’s risk profile. You’ll also provide internal visibility to the ever-changing nature of the regulatory landscape and ensure appropriate enhancements to our ongoing programs and activities as needed.
Additionally, in this role, you’ll lead a high-performing team of seasoned experts ensuring programs are developed according to the needs of specific regulatory obligations and built against a common framework that can be applied across the firm. You’ll also collaborate, in a peer-like fashion, with our Deputy General Counsels and our broader Legal function to understand our legal obligations for specific laws and requirements pertaining to complex regulatory issues. Furthermore, you will articulate our regulatory compliance obligations to internal and external stakeholders, serving as an expert advisor to the broader Risk community and other stakeholders (e.g. firm functions, Risk, the partnership), and you will lead interactions with regulators, such as the Department of Justice, where required.
In this role, you will collaborate within the broader Compliance function, ensuring overall integration across our regulatory compliance agenda within our regions and contribute to our broader capabilities and design/transformation efforts. More specifically, you’ll support the development of tools, standards, and metrics on regulatory compliance matters (e.g. dashboards, systems, testing) and ensure geographic compliance leads have a holistic, integrated understanding of the relevant and specific regulatory areas for their regions and deliver expertise and guidance as needed. You will also provide input on the development of our broader capabilities (e.g. learning, communications) as it relates to regulatory compliance.
