Who You'll Work With
You will be based in our Atlanta, Miramar, New Jersey, New York or Philadelphia office as part of our Global Sourcing team. Our sourcing team maximizes value from McKinsey’s supplier relationships and ensures our internal clients have the goods and services they need to succeed.
You will collaborate closely with category leaders/directors and senior business partners/leaders across the firm to understand their business priorities and establish sourcing strategies that will enable their success.
In this role, you will get a broad understanding of McKinsey’s overall business, gain visibility and understanding across the organization, and be responsible for leading the sourcing efforts with a specific focus and expertise on technology. This role is critical to helping elevate the role of sourcing globally.
What You'll Do
You will work with tech business stakeholders/leaders and the Tech Vendor Management group to deliver exceptional sourcing strategies and experiences including determining and implementing opportunities to reduce costs and counter inflationary pressures through sourcing strategies based on market research & analysis, data collection / management, cost modeling including Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and cost breakdown analysis, RFx strategy development, RFx creation and management, business case development, supplier communications, negotiations, and contracting.
You’ll lead strategic negotiations for large complex deals that have broad impact to the firm and ensure that a comprehensive end-to-end responsible sourcing process is developed, enabled and consistently followed, this includes being accountable to comply with all relevant procurement policies, guidelines, and processes.
You will contribute to a sourcing transformation focused on enhancing our sourcing capabilities globally, supporting our category strategies, integrating sustainable and responsible buying practices, developing the capabilities of colleagues, and building a seamless end-to-end Source-to-Pay processes and systems. The outcomes of the transformation intend to provide customer service excellence, drive financial and other sources of value, along with continuous improvements with our supplier partnerships. Furthermore, driving mindset of continuous improvement / innovation and evolving how we work within sourcing to stay ahead of the curve and be a market leader.
You’ll proactively develop and maintain colleague and supplier relationships in a way that delivers business results, a consistent sourcing experience across the firm, while upholding McKinsey’s values and act as a change agent across the firm to drive a culture of procurement process efficiency and effectiveness.
You will contribute to building and cultivate responsible sourcing capability; educate & partner with key tech leaders on its importance to accomplish strategic goals. You will also partner with risk and environment, social and governance (ESG) leaders to ensure your sourcing efforts follow the responsible sourcing strategy/process and comply with customer and regulatory sourcing requirements. You will advocate and drive the firm’s sustainable procurement, cost management/containment, risk and innovation goals/objectives including championing and promoting the use of diverse suppliers. This includes staying current on external and internal influences that may impact the technology category and strategies including firm / functional strategic initiatives, macroeconomic issues, industry trends, category specific etc.
Qualifications
- University degree; MBA or advanced degree preferred
- 7+ years of relevant experience in sourcing and/or category management, with at least 5 years of indirect procurement experience
- Deep and strategic knowledge of Procurement & Accounting concepts, ERP systems, RFx processes, Contracts and T&C's, and generally accepted purchasing principles
- Deep expertise IT categories, establishing credibility
- Expert in negotiating software, hardware, software-as-a-service and consulting services contracts
- Passion for sourcing, contracting, and negotiating with suppliers
- Strong strategy and thought leadership skills to drive execution of sourcing strategies in collaboration with other functional leaders
- Excellent understanding of all functions, programs, and commodities managed, as well as sound financial principles and expense accounting
- Excellent communication and influencing skills to engage and drive the dialogue and evolution of thinking on sourcing with the Tech senior leadership
- Sound business judgment and impeccable ethics combined with professional demeanor and bearing
- Excellent attention to detail (including reviewing contracts)
- Collaborative style and provide mentorship and drive professional development of colleagues
- High energy, responsive, quality orientation and comfortable operating in a fast-paced autonomous and ambiguous environment
- Project planning, negotiating, organizing, documenting and problem-solving skills required.
