Compliance Specialist, Diligence
Who You'll Work With
You will be based in one of the McKinsey's Asia offices and report to the Compliance Manager, COE Diligence, Asia who is based in Bengaluru, India. You will be a part of McKinsey’s Client Service Compliance pillar which forms part of the firm’s Ethics & Compliance Group, whose mission is to enable McKinsey’s client impact and innovation, while managing risks to the firm, our clients, and our people. The Compliance function is a globally integrated team within the second line of defense of the firm.
What You'll Do
You will carry out diligence on clients and higher risk third parties to inform decision making on who the firm serves and who it partners with to carry out its work. In doing so, you will have responsibility for identifying, clearing and where appropriate escalating red flags and identifying ways to mitigate risk. While the role is global, your focus will be on the Asia region.
You will be expected to have the autonomy to work diligence cases independently and craft and convey well structured, compelling diligence reports without oversight, though with the judgment to know when to seek advice and counsel from colleagues.
You will have the skills and confidence necessary to collaborate with Client Service Risk colleagues on matters requiring higher level risk reviews, and to brief findings and convey judgements to senior colleagues.
You will be expected to inform decision making through a nuanced understanding of economic, geographic, and political issues that impact the firm’s engagements in Asia and will serve as a valued source of advice on relevant approaches and levels of diligence for specific sectors, clients, and partner firms.
You will also have the experience necessary to assume responsibility of a sub-region or sector, under the supervision of the corresponding manager. As a Compliance Specialist, you will play an important role in evolving and ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the firm’s diligence processes in a globally consistent way, while also supporting efforts to ensure compliance with relevant firm policies, systems, and processes.
You will likewise have the people skills necessary to train and develop more junior colleagues, and the experience and drive to support or lead diligence or compliance initiatives, including policy and procedural refinements and workstreams to continually improve the firm’s capabilities.

Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience including 4+ years of experience in due diligence; experience in risk management and compliance is a plus
- Proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Mandarin, Japanese, Bahasa-Indonesia, Korean or Thai
- Outstanding English written and oral communication skills, including clear and concise writing and editorial skills and excellent listening skills
- Professional experience includes working on complex problems related to business risk
- Excellent problem-solving and analytic skills, with a demonstrable ability to operate with little oversight
- Experience working with third party tools for diligence related work
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to prioritize and balance competing, time-urgent demands
- Experience in or aptitude for mastering risk-related data sets and technology solutions
- Experience (work or research) in multiple Asian geographies is critical; experience in other emerging economies is especially helpful
- Proven track record of developing and mentoring more junior colleagues
- Highly collaborative attitude, and the interest and aptitude for working as part of a diverse and dispersed global team
