Who You'll Work With

You’ll work in our Boston or Denver office (possible flexibility within other North American office locations) as part of our Client Capabilities Network, focused on forestry topics. Colleagues in our global Client Capabilities Network deliver distinctive client impact through assets and expertise and are driven by a culture of innovation.
The Agriculture & Nature Capital team is part of McKinsey’s Global Chemicals & Agriculture Practice and serves clients across the broad spectrum of agricultural & forestry value chains from agricultural inputs, crops, livestock to primary processing and forestry. You will work closely with our global Chemicals & Agriculture knowledge network team consisting of ~20 colleagues worldwide. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work with colleagues in our ACRE Solution, which focuses on big data, spatial analytics, and agriculture/forestry IoT.
You’ll have the opportunity to develop industry knowledge and expertise within forestry working alongside industry experts. You’ll also collaborate with the global Agriculture & Nature Capital research team to build and share knowledge, best practices, and new ideas.

What You'll Do

You will support our consultants and clients in the forestry industry by collecting, summarizing, analyzing, and synthesizing information that helps solve specific business problems within forestry.
You will be a thought-partner to client teams and clients. You’ll identify the data, information, and analysis that will support problem-solving efforts and you’ll conduct timely, cost-effective research. You’ll synthesize findings by preparing McKinsey-formatted end-products including written memos, numerical analysis, and presentations. You will codify knowledge and help support the continuous improvement of our knowledge operations and infrastructure, innovating firm knowledge and knowledge delivery through special projects.
As you progress in the firm, there are many opportunities to not only grow within the Client Capabilities Network/Agriculture practice, but also within the firm based on your focus and personal interests/priorities.
We are open to considering candidates at additional role levels with higher years of experience.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree required; advanced degree in Forestry related area of study a plus
  • 2+ years of experience in forest operations (e.g. harvest scheduling, forest planning)
  • Additional professional experience within forestry topics such as silviculture, forest growth, forest modeling or forest investing is a plus
  • Strong understanding and interest in forestry; willing to gain specific industry knowledge
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel and PowerPoint); advanced software knowledge (e.g., Alteryx, Tableau) is a plus
  • Highly curious and creative team member with strong people skills and the ability to have influence and impact in their work
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and quantitative skills
  • Ability to accomplish work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Professional attitude, work standards and service orientation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Background with statistics and/or analytics is a plus
