Associate Editor, Audience Development and Innovation

Who You'll Work With

You’ll join a group of publishing professionals within the Global Publishing team, which is part of the firm’s Reach and Engagement function. Our publishing team focuses on supporting authors to develop powerful editorial products that will make an impact on our many audiences. You’ll work with experienced McKinsey colleagues from around the world to develop and publish distinctive content across digital and print platforms.

What You'll Do

You’ll manage our high-volume, daily email calendar and create, schedule, and review email alerts, curated newsletters, and promotional and “trigger” campaigns. You will review, and edit drafts that rigorously follow conventions of written English and ensure consistency of voice/tone/style and alignment with firm style and risk guidelines. Working closely with producers and proofers, you’ll ensure emails are free of errors and provide final approval for scheduling.
You’ll also curate publishing insights and write crisp, engaging copy for select newsletters, editorial products, and promotional assets, under the direction of key stakeholders. You will apply your strong project-management skills to overseeing new franchise and product rollouts to target audiences across multiple platforms. You will stay up-to-date on business news and trends, as well as the firm’s research, to ensure communications are in touch with current public discussion/research and aligned with the firm’s position. You will own workstreams within your designated team, aligning with stakeholders as relevant.
With guidance from our Subscriptions Senior Editor, you’ll organize ongoing email test campaigns and personalized promotions to cross-sell subscriptions and other editorial products within emails. You will set up and communicate simple, clear processes using our database software to ensure we can scale up these new programs without negative effects on overall accuracy or turnaround time. You’ll monitor email production closely to identify pain points and recommend and enforce process and tracking improvements.
Additionally, you’ll contribute to other promotional efforts, as needed, by identifying relevant high-priority insights, delivering copy, and tracking performance analytics.
You will be deadline-driven and have impeccable collaboration, communication, and organizational skills. You’ll have a strong understanding of general business concepts and stay current on business news and trends. The ideal candidate is both process-oriented and creative: You can multitask, pay attention to details, make smart editorial calls, and have a knack for crafting compelling copy.
