Who You'll Work With

You will join a group of professionals within the Firm’s Reach and Engagement function. These colleagues shape the way the Firm connects with people—from clients to Firm members to alumni—strengthening institutional relationships, connections, and affiliations.
The Brand Strategy Specialist role is part of McKinsey’s Brand Marketing Team, reporting to the Head of Brand Strategy, with a focus on enabling and executing brand strategy initiatives and activations. You will work with Marketing & Communications colleagues around the world, as well as colleagues from Client Activation, Publishing, Media Relations & Institutional Communications, Strategic Communications, and Internal Engagement. You will also work with external creative agencies as needed.

What You'll Do

The Brand Strategy team exists to maximize the brand value of McKinsey. Our focus is on leveraging our most well-known asset, the McKinsey brand, and on ensuring the equity and credibility of our individual offers accrue to the McKinsey brand.
In the Brand Strategy Specialist role, you’ll help drive key brand strategy projects designed to increase our brand value, including: a refresh of guidelines and training; ongoing advising on topics such as naming, alliance branding, and acquisition branding; and upskilling a wide range of colleagues on all aspects of brand strategy. Through development, support, and execution of creative communication plans and tactics, you will build awareness of McKinsey’s capabilities, knowledge, and assets. You will also help drive the understanding, adoption, and maintenance of our Firm narrative and proof points through major channels such as mckinsey.com and our Firm qualifications documents.
You’ll be part of a shift toward professionalizing our brand management, actively seeking out where published guidance has aged out and replacing it with engaging, memorable educational pieces. You’ll take the lead on creating a resource to track and document brand strategy decisions. Your work will keep the team producing relevant training content and interactive learning sessions, and you’ll be measuring and adjusting as part of your commitment to continuous improvement. In turn, you’ll learn in an apprenticeship model about how the right brand strategy moves lead to increased brand value over time.
This role requires proven experience and understanding of brand strategy as well as diligent project management skills including transparent documentation and tracking of progress, complex stakeholder management, and multiple agency team management. You will manage data through reports and scorecards to track relevant metrics (e.g., client development, ROI, share of voice, mapping media engagement programs). You will effectively lead complex projects independently or with a designated team, aligning with key stakeholders as relevant.
In terms of creating effective communications: you will create clear, structured, and engaging written communications products (e.g., memos, emails, short-form content, blogs, talking points/scripts, Q&A) that rigorously follow conventions of written English, aligning with Firm leadership when necessary. You will proactively collaborate with internal and external clients and stakeholders to develop and advise on communications. You will advise on and ensure consistent branding (i.e., Firm's signature voice, visuals, and narrative) across communications platforms and channels in support of relevant brand pivots.

  • Excellent ability to influence and direct colleagues, and manage needs of different stakeholders (including relevant senior leaders)
  • Outstanding critical reasoning and problem-solving skills, including ability to disaggregate issues, identify root causes, and recommend solutions
