Who You'll Work With
You will be based out of Costa Rica as part of the Chemical Insights team within McKinsey's Chemicals & Agriculture practice. As part of Chemical Insights, you will work with and be part of a team of exceptional advisory professionals. In the past five years alone, our Chemicals Practice has supported clients across the world on more than 1,000 strategic, operations, commercial, and organization projects.
Chemical Insights helps clients unlock the full value of their chemicals assets using a combination of deep industry expertise and reliable, tested solutions.
You'll work closely with McKinsey client project teams and sector teams to develop recommendations and ultimately drive implementation and change.

What You'll Do
You will work with a cross-functional group of software developers, product managers, and asset leaders to develop new solutions or enhance existing assets. This will involve leveraging advancement mathematics, statistics and machine learning to derive structure and knowledge from raw data sets across various industry sectors that will enable solutions for many clients and amplify impact across a broad range of issues.
In addition, you will provide analytical support to teams through the development and application of our proprietary chemical’s models. You'll work closely with McKinsey client service teams and sector teams to develop recommendations based on the findings and ultimately drive implementation and change.
You will also contribute to McKinsey’s industry knowledge by staying up to date with the latest in the chemicals industry and you will contribute to proprietary models and analyses. This includes gathering the information necessary to develop these tools and synthesize your findings into McKinsey formatted products. These products may be in the form of complex models which evolve into standalone outputs that outline key findings and recommendations to internal and external audiences.
Qualifications
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Computer science, or related fields
- 1+ years of relevant work experience in data science
- Programming experience in at least two of the following languages: R, Python, Scala, SQL Experience in statistical modelling and machine learning techniques
- Experience in applying advanced analytics and statistical methods in the commercial world Experience is software development environment (Net, Java etc.) is desirable but not a requisite
- Willingness to travel and co-locate depending on product and initiative needs
- Strong team-orientation and a professional attitude
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English and Spanish)
