Media Relations Coordinator

Job ID: 89957

Who You'll Work With

You will join a group of communications professionals within the Firm’s Reach and Engagement function. These colleagues help ensure that appropriate insights reach designated audiences, building awareness and engagement with McKinsey’s distinctive knowledge on a variety of topics. They shape the way the Firm connects with people—from clients to employees to alumni—strengthening institutional relationships, connections, and affiliations.
You will be a member of the Media Relations team, which oversees the Firm’s media presence globally. The Media Relations team seeks to engage with media in a way that demonstrates McKinsey's distinctive functional, industry and geographic knowledge, and enhances its reputation as the world’s preeminent management consulting firm.

What You'll Do

Your primary accountability will be to the Media Relations team, where you will help drive its strategic priorities. However, you will also serve as a thought partner to certain teams across the broader global communications function. To accomplish this, you will leverage a range of skills such as writing, attention to detail, and self-motivation to elevate the Firm’s communications, showcase the Firm’s knowledge and assets in the press, and protect the Firm’s reputation across channels, platforms, and stakeholders.
Specifically, you will contribute to and execute earned media programs in support of our executive visibility and thought leadership campaigns, with a focus on pitching and securing top tier coverage, to bring the Firm’s reputational priorities to life. You will create clear, structured, and engaging written communications in support of these efforts (e.g., memos, emails, narratives, talking points, Q&A, and briefings). You will help support and manage the Firm’s press hotline, routing and responding to requests for media as needed. You will project manage and staff interviews, events, and other activities as appropriate. You will contribute to media measurement, reporting and campaign optimization and cultivate an internal network and develop a portfolio of initiatives in partnership with other teams to support the Firm’s reputational priorities.

  • Track record of pitching reporters and responding to media inquiries, with a strong instinct for and experience with mitigating and addressing reputational risks
  • Possess comfort engaging with reporters, producers and other members of the press
  • Understanding of relevant communication service lines and platforms (media relations, but also external/internal comms, events, executive comms, for example)
  • Superlative communication skills across formats (e.g., written, verbal/presentation, digital-ready content)
  • Able to work independently and entrepreneurially and see projects through end to end, effectively managing and prioritizing deadlines
  • Able to influence and direct colleagues and manage needs of different stakeholders (including relevant senior leaders)
  • Able to collaborate well in teams and receive and provide feedback
