Who You'll Work With

You will be based in one of our US offices as part of our immigration legal function which is part of our broader legal team. The legal department provides comprehensive legal and risk management services across the firm in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

What You'll Do

You will be the central point of contact regarding immigration issues with foreign nationals and stakeholders in our people function as well as with internal immigration legal team and external immigration law firm.
In this role, you will answer questions and provide information on the firm’s immigration policies including sponsorship of visas (H-1B, L-1, etc.) and green cards. You will draft work and travel support letters such as TNs and B-1s for review and sign-off by immigration counsel. You will also review and sign off Labor Condition Applications (LCAs) as well as immigration applications, petitions and other filings prepared by external legal counsel.
You will coordinate and manage PERM recruitment steps with external counsel and in-house team (including posting of NOF, intranet posting, working with stakeholders to provide guidance on resume reviews process). In addition, you will work with immigration counsel and various stakeholders to analyze and confirm case strategy.
You will also manage electronic tools and databases to assist in the efficient functioning of the immigration legal process. You will provide employment data from internal HR systems to external counsel as part of the case initiation process.
You will prepare monthly and ad hoc reports providing statistical analyses on McKinsey’s immigration program, including status reports from external counsel’s electronic portal to offices, practices and leadership to ensure maintenance of legal status, timely initiation of nonimmigrant extensions and green card applications and analyses to identify a variety of other immigration related data
You will conduct basic immigration legal research and prepare summaries of same using both on-line and hard copy resources. Finally, you will provide I-9 assistance to offices, including answering questions on how to complete I-9 requirements from a legal aspect.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3+ years of business immigration paralegal/HR experience
  • Experience working with the following case types: F-1 OPT, H-1B, L-1, TN, H-1B1, E-3, J-1, O-1 and employment and marriage based green card processes
  • Extensive experience with Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook
  • Ability to build and leverage a strong network across many functions
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Creative problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Outstanding organizational and project management skills and attention to detail with full ownership of initiatives and tasks
  • Ability to multi-task effectively and efficiently
  • Proactively drives improvement initiatives
  • Exercises clear and appropriate judgment in a range of situations
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
