Who You'll Work With
You’ll be based in Shanghai, China as part of our Global Chemicals & Agriculture Practice to focus on agriculture related topics.

Our global network has over 2,000 analysts and experts who work alongside our consultants and clients to generate distinctive insights and proprietary knowledge. To develop this knowledge, McKinsey invests $600 million each year in research programs. Our sophisticated portfolio of services includes custom analytics, diagnostics and benchmarking, world-class expertise and research, and cutting-edge practice and knowledge management.
You will work closely with the most inspiring consulting colleagues to serve our clients. You will also work across multiple industrial practices to develop knowledge assets for McKinsey.
The Agriculture team is working on all topics related to the global Agriculture and Food Value Chain. It is a global team of 20+ colleagues worldwide and we focus on agriculture inputs, farming, livestock and downstream processing.
Your impact within our firm
You will support our consultants and clients in the agriculture industry by collecting, summarizing, analyzing and synthesizing information that helps solve specific business problems.
In this role, you will support consulting projects by being a thought partner to client teams and clients. You will identify and verify data, information and analysis that support problem-solving efforts and you will conduct timely, cost-effective research. You will synthesize findings by preparing McKinsey-formatted end products including written memos, numerical analysis and presentations.
You will have the opportunity to develop industry knowledge and expertise working alongside industry experts. You will collaborate with our global research team to build and shape knowledge, best practices and new ideas. You will codify knowledge and help support the continuous improvement of our knowledge operations and infrastructure, innovating firm knowledge and knowledge delivery through special projects.
Your qualifications and skills
- Graduate degree in agriculture, chemical/material science, natural science or engineering with record of strong academic achievement; doctor degree is a plus
- 1+ years of full time working experience in agrochemicals is a must; seed space is a plus
- Strong understanding and interest in agriculture and related industries (e.g., food, agrochemicals, etc.); willing to gain specific industry knowledge
- Demonstrated research experience in an academic or business setting is preferred
- Solid understanding of financial, economic and general business concepts and terminology
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel and PowerPoint); advanced software knowledge (e.g., Alteryx, Tableau) is a plus
- Strong people skills; ability to have influence and impact in their work
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical and quantitative skills
- Ability to accomplish work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
- Professional attitude, work standards and service orientation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese
