Do you want to do work that matters, alongside supportive leaders who will help you grow faster than you ever thought possible? Are you a creative problem-solver who is energized by challenges? You’ve come to the right place.

Who You'll Work With

You’ll join a group of publishing professionals within the Global Publishing team, which is part of the firm’s Reach and Engagement function. Our publishing team focuses on supporting McKinsey authors to develop powerful editorial products that will make an impact on our many audiences. You’ll work with experienced McKinsey colleagues from around the world to develop and publish distinctive content across digital and print platforms.
As an Assistant Editor, you will support editorial publications and programs, assisting MGP editors and production staff to produce content on business topics, often on a specific industry sector. The editorial, production, and communications support you provide will help drive the firm’s ability to disseminate information and reach our publishing objectives.

Your impact within our firm

In this role, you will help promote and continually enhance editorial publications and programs, supporting relevant McKinsey publishing groups and stakeholders as needed.
You will be fluent in our group’s publishing processes and resources, providing strong fact-checking, production, and administrative support to enhance firmwide publishing efforts and outreach initiatives. Your responsibilities will include assisting in syndicating client information within articles, ensuring that all mentions of clients are preapproved by the Director of Client Services (DCS) for each client organization.
Additionally, you will support our web production staff by laying out content in our online article template, which includes text, images, accessibility features, and other assets. You will help manage the assets that enter the production process, tracking their progress from author team approvals through copy editing, data visualization, art direction, image selection, layout, proofreading, and final sign-off. You may be expected to implement best-practice production processes by connecting with editorial, production, and design teams, mostly through our content management system, to agree on timelines and maintain the editorial calendar.
Working with editors, communications professionals, and practice constituents, you will ensure web/app pages are clear, usable, and conform with publishing best practices such as taxonomy tagging, inline linking, accessibility, and SEO. You will also collaborate with external agencies, including vendors that provide external editorial, production, and data-visualization support as needed. Staying up to date with current knowledge and publishing technologies is essential, as is helping pilot the adoption and implementation of newer ones, such as AI and generative AI.

Your qualifications and skills

  • Bachelor’s/university degree required
  • 3 + years of experience in print and/or digital publishing for an English-language business publication or at a professional-services firm
  • Experience working in content management systems (Airtable, Sitecore, etc.)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint) and team share tools (e.g., Box, SharePoint, Slack, Zoom)
  • Proficiency and fluency in verbal and written English is required; other language skills are a plus and/or potential requirement for specific region-focused roles
  • Strong communication skills (oral, written, presentation)
  • Problem-solving skills and high attention to detail
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong project management skills (e.g., the ability to meet short- and long-term deadlines, steer an effort through to completion)
  • Ability to work independently in a low-structure environment and to deal with ambiguity; willingness to proactively seek guidance
  • Positive attitude, collaborative working style, and team orientation
