Knowledge Consultant – Manufacturing, Energy Systems Optimization
Job ID: 93759
Do you want to do work that matters, alongside supportive leaders who will help you grow faster than you ever thought possible? Are you a creative problem-solver who is energized by challenges? You’ve come to the right place.
Who You'll Work With
You will join the Belgium Knowledge Center in Brussels as part of our Manufacturing and Supply Chain Solutions group (MSC Solutions). MSC Solutions houses colleagues with deep technical knowledge on manufacturing topics, plus an array of internal and 3rd party digital/hardware tools to accelerate manufacturing diagnostics and transformations. We have a thriving global team of expert profiles housed in “hubs” in North America, India, and the EU. You will work directly with our clients and McKinsey colleagues to tackle technical challenges and deploy our digital capabilities to ensure we bring tangible, lasting impact to clients.
Your impact within our firm
You will join a thriving community of expert consultants focused on energy system optimization, decarbonization and sustainability. Your primary focus will be to work in small McKinsey teams to identify and implement meaningful improvements in our clients’ daily operations. Typical activities include performing diagnostics, sizing and prioritizing opportunities, guiding improvement initiatives and enhancing our analytical tools.
The preponderance of the work is done onsite at clients’ manufacturing facilities where we collaborate closely with roles ranging from shopfloor operators up to leadership. You will apply our digital and analytical capabilities to assess opportunities in energy system optimization, yield and throughput, as well as decarbonization and sustainability. You will be gathering and analyzing data, running a suite of analytics to assess and quantify opportunities, and developing and communicating recommendations. In between studies, you will bring your learnings back to our internal team to further improve and automate data capture, analytics, and presentation of insights to clients. You will help us strategize next-generation approaches where we either develop proprietary McKinsey tools, or selectively partner with 3rd party companies.
Through your work, you’ll have opportunities to present results to client management and implement recommendations in collaboration with client team members. You will gain new skills and build on the strengths you bring to the firm.
Your qualifications and skills
- Undergraduate or master’s degree in a technical field (science, engineering)
- 1+ years of work experience in a technical field or in manufacturing environments such as chemical, automotive and industrial, pharmaceutical, steel or electronics
- Demonstrated strong conceptual and analytical skills; success in working on high impact cross-functional teams; strong decision making and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated aptitude for analytics
- Proven record of leadership in a work setting and/or through extracurricular activities, and an entrepreneurial bent
- Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
- Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively – both verbally and in writing – in English
- Willingness and excitement to travel and work internationally
