Job ID: 94064
Are you driven by the opportunity to tackle complex challenges and work alongside top leaders? Do you want to be part of a team that delivers outcomes that others simply can’t? If so, you’ve come to the right place.
Who You'll Work With
You will be based in our Lisbon or Madrid office as part of McKinsey’s Legal Department. Reporting to the Managing Counsel in Iberia, you will work closely with a collaborative team of lawyers across Europe and within the broader department. You will partner with various stakeholders at the Firm, including senior leadership, finance, corporate tax teams, and consultants.
McKinsey’s global Legal Department comprises approximately 290 professionals across nearly 50 countries, led by the General Counsel. Our team brings together top talent and expertise from leading law firms and corporations, forming a diverse and dynamic organization.
Your impact within our firm
As Senior Contracts Counsel, your primary focus will be client service, leading the negotiation and structuring of contracts between McKinsey and its clients. Acting as a trusted legal advisor, you will provide solution-oriented guidance that balances legal rigor with business priorities.
In this role, you will engage in a dynamic mix of advisory, drafting, and negotiation work, collaborating closely with key stakeholders across the region. You will provide day-to-day legal counsel to senior leaders and consultants, offering strategic guidance on a wide range of client-related matters.
Your core responsibility will be to structure, negotiate, and execute commercial arrangements in Portugal, Spain, and occasionally other European jurisdictions. This will involve direct negotiations with McKinsey clients and their legal teams across various industries, ensuring agreements align with the Firm’s professional standards, legal requirements, and strategic goals.
You will provide solution-oriented legal advice to internal stakeholders on a broad spectrum of issues, helping them navigate risk, compliance, and syndication procedures. Additionally, you will support them through McKinsey’s risk and approval processes, including interactions with the Firm’s relevant committees.
Your work will include drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of contracts across areas such as M&A, Digital & Analytics, and performance-based fees. These will include master consulting agreements, study-specific consulting agreements, private equity agreements, waiver letters, confidentiality agreements, statements of work, vendor agreements, and benchmarking agreements. You will also provide essential legal input for Request for Proposal (RFP) responses, helping teams address complex legal considerations.
A key aspect of your role will be creating, updating, and distributing standard contracts and related documentation in alignment with McKinsey’s Legal Department policies and procedures. You will track and manage contract flow, maintaining a comprehensive and up-to-date database of contractual arrangements.
In addition, you will support McKinsey consultants by providing the appropriate forms of agreement for various engagement-related legal issues. You will advise them on commercial contract matters and contribute to the development, implementation, and interpretation of the Firm’s internal policies and professional standards.
Collaboration will be central to your role. You will work closely with colleagues across the Legal Department and other functions, including risk, compliance, external relations, office leadership, and local administrative leaders, both in Europe and globally. You will also collaborate with contract counsels and paralegals on contract-related tasks and other responsibilities as needed.
Staying current with legal and regulatory developments in Portugal and Spain, you will provide timely advice on how changes in the law may impact McKinsey’s operations, while developing and sharing your expertise with others. You will also contribute to firm-wide initiatives and ensure the effective delivery of legal services. As a key member of the Legal Department, you will help maintain compliance and support the firm’s continued success
