Your qualifications and skills
- Bachelor’s/University degree or equivalent required
- 5+ years of experience in data visualization and information design, including digital publishing, preferably for an English-language journalism publication or professional-services firm
- Strong data literacy and detailed knowledge of data visualization publishing practices, along with understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
- Mastery of Adobe Illustrator; proficiency with online interactive data visualization publishing software (e.g., Flourish); proficiency with data management software (e.g., Excel); and working familiarity other visual editing software (e.g., Figma, Adobe Creative Suite)
- Comfort level with data viz code development environments is a plus (e.g., collaborating with web developers; experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint) and team share tools (e.g., Box, Slack, Zoom)
- Proficiency and fluency in verbal and written English is required, other language skills are a plus
- Strong editorial skills (e.g., writing, editing), judgment, with ability to rapidly absorb complex ideas and distill them into accessible exhibits for global audiences
- Broad and deep understanding of current events and trends in economics, business, policy, and technology
- Familiarity with audience engagement (e.g., social media)
- Strong communication skills (oral, written, presentation)
- Experience interacting with senior staff and subject matter experts and ability to achieve consensus across such stakeholders
- Problem-solving skills; ability to constructively challenge client service content based on knowledge of best practices in data visualization
- Strong organization skills and project management skills (e.g., the ability to meet short- and long-term deadlines, handle multiple projects simultaneously, steer an effort through to completion)
- Ability to work independently in a low-structure environment and to deal with ambiguity; understanding of when to proactively seek guidance, and willingness to do so

For new joiners for this role in Canada and/or the United States, including all office locations where the job may be performed, a reasonable estimated range is $118,900 - $176,800 in USD and $125,600 - $157,000 in CAD — to help you understand what you can expect. This reflects our best estimate of the lowest to highest salary for this role at the time of this posting, ensuring you have a clear picture right from the start, though it's important to remember that actual salaries may vary. Factors like your office location, your unique blend of experience and skills, start date and our current organizational needs all play a part in determining the final figure. Certain roles are also eligible for bonuses, subject to McKinsey's discretion and based on factors such as individual and/or organizational performance.
