About the role: Are you passionate about technology and eager to be part of an exciting venture? We are thrilled to announce a great opportunity to join our team as a Senior Data Engineer. We are looking for talented individuals from all backgrounds and experiences to join us on this exciting journey as we grow our Engineering team within our ELL Division, and more specifically within the Data & Analytics team. You will have the chance to collaborate with top-notch professionals, work on cutting-edge projects, and contribute to building a thriving tech community.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their data requirements, create and automate data pipelines, optimize data workflows, and much more. Your expertise will be critical in developing and maintaining scalable data solutions that support data analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data architecture, database design, and data integration techniques.

Key Accountabilities

  • Data Pipeline Development: Design, build, and maintain efficient and reliable data pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from various sources into our data warehouse or data lake.

  • Data Modeling: Create and maintain robust data models that align with business requirements and ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across the organization.

  • Data Transformation: Develop data transformation processes and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) workflows to convert raw data into meaningful insights and prepare data for analysis.

  • Database Management: Implement and manage data storage solutions, including relational databases, NoSQL databases, and cloud-based storage systems.

  • Data Quality and Governance: Establish data quality standards and implement data governance practices to maintain high-quality data throughout the data lifecycle.

  • Data Security: Ensure data security and compliance with data privacy regulations by implementing appropriate access controls and data protection mechanisms.

  • Performance Optimization: Identify performance bottlenecks in data processing pipelines and optimize data flows for speed and efficiency.

  • Monitoring and Troubleshooting: Monitor data pipelines, identify and resolve data-related issues promptly to ensure data availability and accuracy.

  • Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation for data pipelines, data models, and other relevant data engineering processes to facilitate knowledge sharing and onboarding.

Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Most important skill: self-drive, proactiveness, and passion. We are building a vibrant team and these attributes are essential!

  • Hands-on experience in ETL and data transformation techniques to process and cleanse data effectively.

  • Working knowledge of GCP

  • Working knowledge of the following data engineering tools: Dataflow, BigQuery, Databricks, Airflow, Dataproc, Bitbucket

  • Working knowledge in programming languages: Python (in Airflow), Pyspark (in Databricks, Dataproc), Pysql (in Databricks, Dataproc), PythonBeam (in Dataflow), SQL (in Bigquery), Java (in Dataflow)

  • Knowledge of source databases: SQL Server, Mongo DB, MySQL, Oracle DB. Knowledge of structured, semi-structured and unstructured data

  • Knowledge on CI/CD (collaborative scripts, pool requests, etc) and DevOps.

  • Real experience of Agile development.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.

  • Soft skills: Analytical thinking, curiosity and continuous learning. Work in collaboration. Problem-solving.
