About the role:

Do you want to be part of the biggest digital transformation in the EdTech and help people around the world to learn languages and realise their dreams? The English Language Learning (ELL) division of Pearson is looking for a talented and motivated professional to join our growing team as Director for Digital Presence and e-Business. In this exciting role you will ramp up and lead a team of technical experts to drive the digital transformation of ELL around E-Commerce, WebCMS, CRM, and digital analytics. Reporting to the ELL CTO you will support defining and executing the digital transformation strategy in close collaboration with Marketing, Sales and Product teams.

High Level Responsibilities

  • Ramp up and lead teams of engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise

  • Create a vision and a strategy for the digital transformation of ELL in the MarTech and ecommerce space in alignment with key stakeholders in Marketing, Sales, Products and Central Technology teams

  • Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for the global rollout and evolution of the ELL ecommerce and WebCMS platforms in alignment with business objectives.

  • Oversee the CRM journey of ELL in adopting Salesforce suite in partnership with central technology teams

  • Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to deployment and ongoing maintenance.

  • Drive technical innovation and excellence, identifying opportunities to leverage emerging technologies and industry best practices.

  • Ensure Compliance and Security of applications and platforms in the portfolio of responsibility

  • Manage technical debt and prioritize system enhancements to improve maintainability and efficiency.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging knowledge sharing, learning, and professional growth within the engineering team.

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, tools, and frameworks, and make recommendations for their adoption when appropriate.

  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels with stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status, risks, and mitigation strategies.

  • Build a sourcing strategy for development and manage contracts and relationship with external vendors

  • Align with the ELL Chief Architect and the Enterprise Architecture team on global solutions to adopt

About you

Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree in Software engineering or Computer Science (or equivalent experience)

  • Relevant experience in managing SW engineering teams in a complex and matrix organization as well as in building relationships with senior stakeholders

  • Proven experience in rollout and evolution of global ecommerce solutions

  • Strong understanding of emerging technologies and software engineering methodologies

  • Relevant knowledge of MarTech and ecommerce solutions including Adobe Experience Manager, Big Commerce, Salesforce (Marketing, Sales and Service Cloud) and proven track record of deployment of those solutions at scale

  • Strong data driven mindset and knowledge of data analytics solutions, Tagging, Search & Content Marketing, SEO

  • Ability to build agile and high performing teams that can deliver business value in short period of time

  • Experience in managing contracts and external vendors

  • Passion for education and learning

  • Experience in working with multinational, multicultural and distributed teams
