We are currently seeking a highly proficient Senior Software Engineer to solve technical issues from Wētā Digital and Wētā FX users and work with the pipeline team.

The Pipeline department build the software which help our crew make movies. We specialise in crafting and developing enterprise grade distributed systems that run on our large cluster compute setup with minimal downtime.

Our ideal candidate is a Senior C++ developer who’ll join our small, hard-working team here in Wellington. The successful candidate will be working on HiDef and its backend services. HiDef is our in-house review and playback application. It is a macOS application being re-written cross platform that lets you find, manage, and play media. HiDef is a key element in the iteration process that is at the heart of VFX with a strong expectation it will be performant and reliable.

• Writing flexible, robust code that integrates an array of Weta-built custom libraries
• Delivering pragmatic solutions in a fast paced, constantly evolving environment
• Working with stakeholders and teammates to strategize the best solutions
• Coding, testing, integration, and release cycles

• An accomplished C++ developer
• Experience in API development, with a focus on performance and scalability
• Experience with SQL or NoSQL databases
• Excellent communication skills, a collaborative attitude
• Experience as a Software Developer.

• Golang, a scripting language (eg. Python), or experience with with Objective C
• Experience with desktop GUI frameworks (eg. QT), Event-Driven Architectures, service deployment, eg. Kubernetes, Ansible, Docker
• Experience with video decoding, playback, and colour or VFX experience
